NEWS

Week two has been fun.  Our class has spent the week getting into our routines and setting expectations.  We also have continued to learn more about one another.  Oh yeah and we started Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop and Math.

(On September 19th there will be a curriculum night where you can come and learn more about the curriculum that we use in our class.  Until then I will highlight one area each week.)

For Writing instruction we utilize the Writer’s Workshop model.  Each day we begin the workshop with a short mini-lesson.  The lessons vary each day and are chosen based on the need of the students.  This week we had a mini lessons on;  choosing paper (there are three options), putting your name and date on the paper, adding details to your pictures, adding details to your words.  The first month or two of school we are writing non-fiction stories about ourselves, “small moments”  The goal of this first unit is to establish a safe, comfortable environment for the students so they are comfortable to take risks and make mistakes while writing.

About once a month I will be sending home a scholastic book order.  The newspaper flyer gets the student excitement high.  However, you are always able to order online.  https://orders.scholastic.com/HFWGD The major benefit of ordering online is that each order earns free books for the classroom!
